Dinner Rolls Made Simple

Not only is this recipe delicious, it is the easiest yeast bread I have ever made. The cleanup is simple, using only one pot to mix and rise the dough in.

Serves 12
Prep time: 8 minutes
Rising time: (2)30 minutes and 40 minutes
cook time: 15 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/4 cups whole milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 package yeast
  • 3 1/2 cups all purpose flour,
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 large egg

    Instructions:

    Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

In a medium size saucepan with lid, heat milk and sugar on low heat until sugar dissolves. Turn off heat and cool until milk is 90-100 degrees.

Add yeast and butter and allow yeast to soften.

Whisk egg into milk mixture and mix until yeast has dissolved.

Slowly add flour and salt to milk mixture. Mix dough until smooth. Continue to mix until dough is very smooth, about 2 minutes.

Cover with lid and let rise until almost doubled in size, about 30 minutes.

    Punch down dough.

Shape dough into rolls, making them about the size of a tangerine.

Place rolls onto a baking sheet or stone. Allow to rise about 40 minutes.

Turn oven down to 375 degrees and cook rolls until golden brown, about 15 minutes.

    Cooking Wiser:
Cut down on rising time by using rapid rise yeast. But remember that the flavors won't be quite as developed.
